Rangi raua ko Papa
0:00- 1:06

The stars awaken Ranginui and Papatūānuku, beginning our story.

The Seperation
1:06 - 1:55

Trapped in darkness, the children of Rangi and Papa longed for light and space. At last, Tāne rose with a bold plan. Planting his feet against his father and bracing his shoulders against his mother, he pushed with all his strength — until, with a mighty heave, he tore them apart, and light flooded the world!

Tāwhirimātea & Matariki
1:06 - 2:24

Because Tāne separated his parents, Tāwhirimātea grew furious, his eyes glowing red. In his rage, he tore out his eyes and cast them into the sky, creating Matariki—also known as Ngā Mata o te Ariki Tāwhirimātea, the Eyes of Tāwhirimātea.

Tupuānuku
2:25 - 3:16

This star honours food from the earth, symbolized by the 'Ko'—a digging tool used to harvest kai and prepare the soil for planting.
